On this page are the death notices from the Rawlins paper for both the Hartt brothers.  Judah Frank's (to the left) from the newspaper the Rawlins Republican Tuesday, May 6, 1930 - just one week before John Kelly's 60th birthday.  Below is John Kelly's - reprinted from the Rawlins Daily Times, July 15, 1952.  Both brothers died in or near Baggs, Wyo enroute to the hospital in their hometown of Rawlins, Wyo.    Both were born very far away from this small community - in the Maine/NS Canada region.  What brought them both to Wyoming from such a far off place? - opportunity in the West, perhaps.  What called them to become sheep ranchers - born to a family with generations of Baptist ministers before them?  My mom told me that the basement of her childhood home in Rawlins was filled with sermons from her grandfather and great-grandfather's ministries all the way back in Canada.  It seems almost a strange twist of fate that their lives would both end in the very small community of Baggs under similar circumstances.    These articles do not only tell of their death - but of a unique time in western history!
These clippings were provided courtesy of the Carbon County Musuem and the Carbon County Library - both in Rawlins.

What were the other news features on these days?  On May 6th, 1930 - other headlines in the Rawlins Republican (page one) read: "Rawlins Review," New Paper, to Be Issued Thursday; Carey Speaker at Lions Meet Last Thursday; Man is Found Roaming Hills North of City; Indian Slayer Declaired Sane by Commission.

And in the Rawlins Daily Times on July 15th, 1952 other headlines were: Visitors 'Amazed at West"; Communists Consult at Higher Levels; Red Desert Rodeo to Run Aug. 23-24.
