| Special thanks to Kay Alexander, CO State Representative from Montrose for the above award which I received as the Montrose Colorado's first certified nurse-midwife. During my seven years in Montrose, I was able to establish the first effective system for low income prenatal care in that community and attended over 700 births at the local hospital - the largest obstetric practice in the community during some of those years. It was this experience that helped me better understand the challenges my grandparents must have faced right there in Western Colorado a couple generations before me. |
